How we became Baltimore Magazine’s Best Custom Invitations and Best Stationery store.
(An odd-looking calligrapher played a key part.)
We didn’t begin at Green Spring Station, or do invitations. In 1980, we opened a party and gift store in Baltimore’s Harborplace, and a few years later opened the Green Spring store. There we added stationery, greeting cards and a few invitations. Closing at Harborplace to focus on Green Spring, we ventured into custom invitations.
In 1986, we bought a computerized mechanical arm that writes calligraphy. We put our calligrapher to work on custom invitations and envelopes, added a foil-stamp printing machine, and became one of the first invitation stores in the nation to provide in-store printing.
Today, we represent the best known, finest custom invitations and stationery companies, with trend-setting designers’ albums not seen anywhere in the Baltimore area. Offerings include over 500 different imprintable cards in stock for every occasion. Since our invitations are each customized for one client, and one client alone, they are not sold on the website.
No invitation needed to give back to our community.
We’re homegrown, not a national chain, so being active in our community comes naturally. Some of our pro bono activities include:
- We are Tocqueville members of United Way of Central Maryland
- We support charitable fundraisers
- We serve on committees for other great causes
- We provide internships for local graphic design students
